A legendary Southern California news anchor, Jerry Dunphy used to open his broadcast every evening with the phrase, “from the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California, a good evening.” Many of you who are my age [no I’m not revealing that at this time] can remember hearing that and knowing that the news was about to begin. This week, I feel like we [HSPN Sports West] are doing just that, covering Southern California’s high school football championships “from the desert to the sea.”
This is championship weekend for the 13 divisions of the California Interscholastic Federation’s Southern Section high school football playoffs. HSPN West is primed to cover the CIF SS Division II, and Division 13 games this Friday and Saturday night. The 11-2 Oaks Christian Lions [Thousand Oaks, CA] will make the one-hour ride northeast to take on the 12-1 Valencia Vikings [Valencia, CA] for the CIF SS Division II crown Friday, December 1 at 7:30 PM PST. HSPN West will be there to bring you coverage from the sidelines and post-game interviews.
On Saturday, December 2, HSPN West will travel back to the City of Orange to cover the CIF SS Division 13 championship game between the 11-2 Orange High Panthers [Orange, CA] and the 9-3 Silver Valley Trojans [Yermo, CA]. In all, we will have truly traveled “from the desert to the sea,” and tracked over 400 miles covering these four outstanding programs.
